anyone gone back to jpeg after shooting raw

yes i know it's a odd question but iv just being doing a few test's and it may well be my Lack of skill but iv being shooting raw quite a while now so got a fair ider about it in cs2
i had blown the highlight's in this shot but the jpeg seem's just as good to me as the 16bit tiff full size.
i used the shadow highlight tool on both and exsposure ajustment also a bit of USM.
i dont want to get too deep in this but wondered if anyone had found not a lot of diffrences with certain shot's (as in what's they find exceptable )

I tried to go back to JPEG when LR came out, since it allows white balance adjustments just as easily as RAWs, but since I'm not perfect with my exposures all the time I decided to stick with RAW. There's more latitude for overexposure recovery with a RAW than a JPEG and a self-test with some intentional overexposures really drove it home for me.

Memory and hard drives are cheaper than ever, so the space issue really isn't one.

I'll never shoot JPEG again unless I borrow my child's P&S.

I prefer the greater bit depth of raw and the simple adjustment of WB and exposure. While I always strive to get the exposure correct by shooting manual, $h*t happens.

RAW all the way. I just can't imagine going to JPG again, I'm too scared of the compression.

I have only shot RAW a couple times and didn't see a difference... I have been starting to read EVERYTHING I can about composition. I have to learn everything I can before my next wedding. I'm not happy with my pictures and can use any advice on RAW vs. Jpeg... or anything else that would help. I have a Canon 20D and use a 17mm-85mm and a 430 EX Flash. I need more clear in focused pictures. I have a business and am doing well... I just don't meet my own expectations.

I tend to use raw for wildlife and jpg for sports. It is soooo much easier to upload/process 200+ sports pics in jpg.

currently have been shooting jpeg+raw. Jpeg for that quick review, but I was totally blown away by the power of raw. Pictures that I thought were total scrap, I was able to save and turn into awesome pics thanks for the .cs2 file using PS CS3

Started with jpeg, then jpeg+raw because I wasn't confident. Now i'm sticking with raw since I have most of the tools I need to get the results I want. Now, I like the whole workflow process anyways and the flexibility it gives.

The first day with the 30D, it was set on JPEG (without me knowing it). That was the last time.

No advantages for me to use JPEG. Others may get different mileage and/or have different reaons for their choice.

It's not my call.

Like Westbeachbc, started with jpeg, then raw+jpeg, now raw exclusively. There's just too many shots that I never would have been able to salvage in jpeg. The white balance and exposure control you have in raw just can't be compared with jpeg.

I shoot RAW+small jpeg. I batch the jpegs for proofing or just use them as a ultra fast preview when sorting images.

I'll shoot RAW+jpeg many times when I want to quickly go through my images to view, or when I'm sure I have space on my card... but still may want the RAW "just in case" for those images that really could benefit from it.

LR actually makes me want to shoot raw MORE, not less... try using the recovery slider on a jpeg with blown out sky/clouds compared to the RAW image... I see alot more recovery taking place in the RAW. (I just wish LR would import RAW+jpeg in same folder, to make things easier.)

If shooting artisticly, portraits, or events I'll definately shoot RAW.
If shooting snapshots, usually RAW+jpeg, and if I'm low on card space jpeg only.

I see the benefits of both formats, honestly.

Hell no - because of the control one has over a RAW file in LR, compared to JPEG.

I can get detail out of blown skies with RAW (Martin Evening's book on pages 126, 127). He gives an example of a scene shot in both JPEG and RAW:

"If you shoot a scene such as this using JPEG mode, the clipping you see in the histogram and also in the clipping gamut warning seen in the clouds indicates that there is nothing that can be done to reveal more information highlights. The tonal range in the JPEG image has already been fixed".

"If the same image is captured in RAW mode, a negative Exposure combined with a postive Recovery adjustment quickly reveals the highlight detail the JPEG capture version was unable to preserve. When you process a RAW file, you have more tones to play with, and therefore more flexibility when it comes to making tone decisions in the Develope module".
