Nesting pair of avocets attack a great egret! Amazing!

I always thought that avocets were delicate little birds that enjoy spending their day sifting through mud. My opinion changed when I witnessed what happens when you get to close to a pair of nesting avocets. This great egret learned the hard way.

They vigorously defended their territory and chased him clear across the pond.

What impressed me was that they wouldn't give up either. At one point, they were so aggressive with their pursuit that the frantic egret almost crashed into the water.

Great series. I agree with Gary that the 1st shot is best. Great, frantic look on the egret in that one.

Wow.. I've always thought Avocets were peaceful waders too.. Your shots are impressive.. Nice and sharp and well exposed.
