PopPhoto, pros and 75-300

I don't know how many of you have seen the new issue of PopPhoto. There is an article on how to shoot brides Nothing special, but there are also some pictures that illustrate the methods.

Each picture comes with the name of the pro photographer that took it and technical details (camera, lens, exposure, etc). One of the pictures was taken by a pro photographer from NY, with Canon 1D and ... 75-300 lens.

I was shopping for a telephoto lens not that long ago. I've read 100 of reviews. The best thing I've heard about 75-300 is that it gives a fair performance for the money ($150). I know that it's not the lens or the camera, but the person behind the camera is the one who takes the picture and etc. Still, after all negatives reviews of 75-300 it's hard to believe that a pro will use it constantly to do the job. Or may be the lens is not that bad at all

The only other possibility is that it's actually a hidden advertisement to promote sales of that lens.

Well, Jerry Zaun had taken a number of nice shots with that lens, and posted them here.

Myself, I wouldn't want it at wide apertures, but at f/8, its probably pretty nice. If I were shooting weddings for a living, I'd certainly choose something different.

I don't remember the settings he used, only 170mm. Now, I have to go back to that bookstore and read it again

Guess if you shoot for a living, it really wouldn't matter that much as long as you sell to "normal" people mostly. You will see the difference, but not all print-buyers are measurebating pictures as bad as we do in here

that's a good point - most photographers don't sell 100% crops.... :P
