Richard not 100% positive but it very well could be the older CPU being the limiting factor here. Especially since you see how fast your laptop loads it.

With my previous build a P4 3.0 GHz, it took over 30 seconds for CS3 to open up and Bridge even longer. Now as noted earlier with the E6700 Dual Core chip its a matter of 5 seconds and even faster once the app has been loaded.

I can open bridge from a cold start to showing previously generated thumbnails in 20-25seconds. If I close and reopen it's down to 5 seconds. This shows that disk access was the limiting factor. CPUs these days are fast so that's not often the problem.

You could try purging your cache.
