RAW Question

Hi all! I photograph with a Canon 20D and recently just started using RAW.

I've just landed my first job out of college (using my photography degree) as a photographer. We do pretty much all family beach portraits with some weddings thrown in too. For beach portraits we still shoot with a Bronica (medium format film) but weddings are done digital.

My bosses aren't that much help, because they are Nikon users - while I stick with Canon. I've been doing my practice beach portrait sessions using my 20D and shooting in RAW. I'm always in the manual "M" mode and I went into my menu and picked "RAW". For some reason when uploading my pictures there are some RAW and some JPEG. How can I make it so they are all RAW? I made sure that I WAS NOT on the RAW+JPEG mode.

If you have selected RAW and always shoot in M mode then there should be zero jpegs. Check the EXIF on the jpegs to verify what mode they were shot in.

What software do you use to view your images? I assume Photoshop. If so you can use Bridge (if you have CS2/CS3) or open up the jpeg and go to File > File Info. Then click on Camera Info 1 (I think that is what it is called) on the left hand side of the window.

What quality setting is your camera set to? I suspect its RAW + jpeg. Shooting in manual mode will not make any difference to the recorded format of the image. Check your menu settings.

THanks. I did check my menu setting and its in RAW....just RAW, not RAW+jpeg so I'm still totally confused about why I'm still getting jpegs.

Can you post one of the jpegs with the EXIF retained?

My 10D also does that now and then, no clue why. My last shoot about 10 out of 80 images converted to JPEG although the camera was set on RAW only. A digital mystery.

Did you shoot in green box mode at any point? I think that forces you back to JPEG if I'm not mistaken.
