UV filter query

Had a quick search but I'm still unsure of which filter to choose. Both filters are the same price but I don't really know which is the better of the two or what one type offers that the other dosen't etc..

Hoya 77mm Digital Multi-Coated (DMC) Pro1 UV Filter

Hoya 77mm Super HMC Pro 1 UV (O) Filter

It would basically be for protection for use on a Canon 10-22mm EF-S on a 20D.

EDIT: Done a few more searches & got a few threads on the same subject.

Not a lot of difference between the two. According to Hoya, their Digitals have the edges of the filter glass anti-reflection coated. I'm not sure how big a deal that is although if you use a hood with your lenses routinely it's got more chance of mattering with UWA lenses.

Someone once told me in a post that they are the same thing just with different marketing strategies.

I wouldn't even bother unless you have a special situation. I'm officially a non filter user now. Those things collect so much gunk. I formerly used the canon l-39 filters, but no more!

That's why I pay my insurance company extra for OOPS coverage on my gear.

I would've said that before UV filters saved my 100-400L and my 24-105L from damage on two separate occasions. If you're as clumsy as me then definitely buy them. £100 in filter protection has saved over £1,500 of lens from damage.
