The Canon 80-200 is most likely what's referred to as the "Magic Drainpipe". Excellent lens, great IQ. If you can get your hands on it, get it. The Auto/Manual would be the focus modes.
Correct. It's the predecessor of the current Canon 70-200/2.8 L that was made between 1989 and 1995 and is actually heads and shoulders over the Tamron 28-75/2.8 (which is a very decent lens, as well). Downside is, it normally sells well in the 600 EUR+ range... If you can get a good one for a good price, go for it. It is an awesome portrait lens if you have a bit of space.
