Can anyone tell me the aprox date of this serial number 215024 from a Canon EOS 1D MKII?

You can look inside the battery compartment; there's a date code near the contacts.
My serial number is in the 250000s and my date code is OS1205 = December 2003

How can that be right though when the camera wasn't released until May 2004? Looking at the Canon date code here, OS is Oita 2004. Congrats your camer is one year newer then you thought it was.

Now my problem with this is, I have looked in my 20Ds for this, I guess they do not have a date code put in them?

Anyways the reason I ask about serial numbers is sometimes I see people selling cameras saying it has a HIGH serial number and was made close to the end.

Oops, looks like I can't count. I thought 2003 sounded wrong...
I think 1-series cameras are the only ones with date codes on them, much like how with lenses it's pretty much L lenses only with date codes (although there are a few exceptions here, such as the 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro)
