Do you think I should just wait after a year (or however long) before I get a little dust in the viewfinder and then just send it to Canon (or local repair shop) to have it cleaned? Dust and particles in the viewfinder is no big deal?

My new 400D seems to have one. It's not visible with my eye up close, but if I look through it from about 10-20cm away, it's quite obvious in the upper left corner. 7D, 100-400L, 5D2, 17-40L, 24-105L

I'm thinking it's not worth sending the camera back for repair as it doesn't affect my shots. nah your shots are safe.. - now does it annoy you - when shooting ? if so send it back.. if not check its not a bit of fluff.. © All rights given away

The 40D, 5D, 1D-series and EOS3 are the only current or recent models that have user-changeable focus screens. These are more easily cleaned (if done very, very carefully) but are also more prone to getting dust on them, than the sealed screens on the other cameras. Alan Myers

If that is your case and you have warranty I suggest you take it in to Canon. If you don`t have a warranty it will cost $200+ Canon 5D IV | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L Mark 2 | Canon 85mm f/1.8 | 580 EX II
