Small digital camera with good and fast autofocus

A need a small digital camera with good and !fast! autofocus, even in low light conditions (cloudy, dark woods). No optical zoom required.

What would you recomend ? I tried the Optio S (nice small), but it was slow and the picture quality was not very good (1/3 to 1/2 of the pictures were out of focus).
