Can anyone help me on this?
I get a critical error and am forced to abort driver installation for my S3 on a new HP system that I have at work.
"twain driver file for windows XP not found" error. Whether from Canon Solutions disk or downloaded I get the same message.
I did some digging, and could not find anything that specifically helps me to determine the issue and resolution.

I had driver trouble in the past too and pulled half my hair out trying to get it sorted. I tried to find solutions on the web and decided to try driver detective from Drivers HQ: http://www.drivershq.com/ (external link) which detects out of date or corrupted drivers and finds and installs up to date ones. Having had to pay for it I was slightly disappointed with the results - some of the drivers it suggested were either wrong or did not seem to install, although it did update some of the other out of date ones successfully.
Maybe it will work better for you though.
Mike.

I am unable to install through the core windows installer program though, as that is were the error is being generated, so I don't know that that would work. Thanks anyway.

Are you trying to install the USB or the WIA twain driver?...the USB driver is not compatible with Win XP. You have to use the WIA driver.

out of these two choses,
TWAIN Driver 6.6.2 for Windows 98 SE/Windows 2000
WIA Driver 6.4.2 for Windows Me
I was trying to install the twain... I was sure that is what I installed on my home system, preventing me from even really looking at my choices! Must have took a stupid pill this morning rather then my multi-vitamin.
If this works, by golly I will be very grateful.

I'm not sure if you've already found this (external link) but you might be able to find what you need there.

I am having the same exact problem that you have described with my canon powershot sd1000. Did you ever end up finding a solution. I can't find anything. I am at the pulling my hair out stage right now.
