The only catch is that you must comply with the guidelines for eligibility. Otherwise, it is a full version.
When it comes time to upgrade you must purchase a new full version (student or regular) as there is no upgrade version for students.

That's not totally accurate. You are correct in that there really is no student version of the upgrade but that doesn't mean that you can't buy the regular upgrade. Some stores like Academic Superstore even sell the regular upgrades with a small discount ($10 or so only) to students, faculty and schools.

Correct Leo. Good point and thanks for clarifying my statement.

I just got the academic Design Standard CS3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat) for $250. No manuals and only one installation. I installed it on my Mini, then tried to install on my laptop and the installer quit. They're pretty tight about how many machines you can put it on. I have Aperture on three of my Macs with one academic purchase.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

No they don't. I bought a student edition of Microsoft Office last year in Circuit City and nobody asked me for anything other than the money to pay for it. I know that efollett.com makes you send in a copy of your student ID or something like that. Just find someone who is a student and have them buy it for you.

They told me at the store that they send a copy of the student-card to adobe, and that they at adobe verify the name of the card with the one from the registration. So if you want to register it on your name, the student-card has to be yours.

It must be the store you're going to then. Like I said, I've bought student editions before and never been asked for ID but maybe it was just luck on my part in being able to get away with it.

You are still technically in violation of the license when you click "AGREE" because the license explicitly says students and other 'eligible' people as well ;)

Read the licensing stuff.. it is actually quite enlightening to see the stuff they try to put in there

I understand what you're saying but correct me if I'm wrong, if I go to a store, attempt to buy a student edition of something and the store doesn't do their part to verify that I'm a student, I don't see how I am in violation of anything. I could always deny that I knew I was buying a student edition of anything...right?

The online companies are much more strict about verification than most retail stores are so I'll give them credit for that.

You know that there are people who will try to buy the cheapest edition of something but I believe it ultimately comes down to the seller to make that verification, not the buyer.
