I wanted just the bottom RRS plate for the Mark III. They informed me it is a different plate than the current 1 series and is not available yet.

Anybody have different info or know where I can get a good arca swiss compatible bottom plate? I don't like the L plates. Too cumbersome.

The Kirk L Bracket is available. I just got mine in the mail yesterday. Fits like a glove.

I have a solution to the problem, and it only costs $189.00.

Buy the Kirk L Bracket. It partially covers the part in questions, and looks like it will hold it in place. At least I can't remove the cover while the L Bracket is installed.

You may all thank me now.

Here's another "great" idea. I just bought and connected the WFT-E2A and it sues the same "hole." You are then suppose to screw the cap into a hole in the transmitter designed just for that so you don't lose it. Solution is only $800 to $1,000 depending where you buy the wireless transmitter. ;)

Coincidentally, I just received a call from Canon an hour or two ago regarding this cap. I posted the info in another thread. Bottom line, they are sending me a replacement. Canon has probably spent $5,000 worth of hourly wage labor to deal with this problem. I went up three levels of supervisors to get this twenty-five cent replacement part. Glad to see businesses, as well as individuals can be penny wise and dollar foolish.

I had just the bottom plate for my 1d2n and it fits perfectly on the 1d3, but backwards :p (lip hugs the front of the bottom grip, not the back). still, no worries whatsoever as far as stability or how it holds the camera, you just can't see the glorious RRS logo on the back of your camera anymore. If you have one lying around from your old 1d2n...it should fit the bill just fine until they design one for the 1d3.

I cant believe they have not solved this problem yet.

What problem is that? If you're referring to people losing their round plastic cap, that hasn't been reported for a long time now.

Just recieved a package from canon... after complaining i lost the cover.

They sent me the USB and Flash cover :(

Doh! I clearly stated the cover for the extension system terminal. I guess they don't understand their own terminology.

How do you get that cap off? I tried couple times and it would not come loose regardless which way I turned the screw.

The best zoom lens is two steps forward, and the best wide angle lens is two steps backward.

Ah, ha! They must have taken my advice and started using superglue on them. :)

I'm trying to tell you guys...just put a Kirk L Bracket on your camera. The cover can't come off.

(Note...I never said this was a cost-effective solution.);)

thanks for the info here. I just lost mine this weekend...so I called and ordered 4 more. Mine seemed nice and tight so I didn't worry too much about it but apparently I was wrong.
