i picked up 4 at canon thailand...they had to specially order them, apparantly thai canon users just dont rough their cameras up like us silly western folk!

charged me over a dollar for each...and i picked them up at their office. thought that was a bit ridiculous, but oh well. now I have my RRS L-plate so i don't even need the darn things any more. doh!

The L-plate is not going to seal your camera and protect it from dust and moisture if that terminal cover is missing. What it will do, I think, is keep the cover from coming off in the first place, though. Or is that what you meant, i.e. you don't need the spares anymore.

That's what I meant. Sorry I didn't make myself clearer.

If it's already missing, the L Plate (which was really only a tongue-in-cheek suggestion anyway) isn't going to do diddly squat.

For the Uk you can get them from h Leahman 01782 413611
They are really busy and you need to just keep ringing.

ask for:

Extension system terminal toe cap

Minimum order value is £7.50 and you get 2 of them.

Just got off the phone with Canon USA and here is there take - They have not had any complaints as of now and the rep was in disbelief that this cap is coming off because his model fits fine. Then he went on to say that maybe the plastic threads are wearing out. I patiently explained that I had read of 5 different cases now and there is only maybe a couple hundred cameras in the US. I also asked how he could say the threads have worn out in 1 day for me and at the most a couple of weeks for anyone. He said it was only a .50 piece. I politely informed him it was part of a 4500 camera and i wasn't complaining because I needed the piece as much as I wanted to inform them of a problem before they had to replace thousands of them. He said that they would try to get a new one out to me. He did not act convinced that this was a wide spread problem.

So everyone needs to call for a replacement or at least complain so they will fix the problem!!!

this guy in Canon sounds like a paper you know what!!!!!!! my camera was two days old I never touched the cap it fell off and got lost. just like there was no one reporting that the Mark III had no problems! 50.000.00 cameras were effected but there were no reports of camera problems.

Well when get mine this morning, I will definitely check that knob and make sure its tight and hope for the best.

But if it's only a $0.50 part, well, at least it's cheap.

Mine was lost after 3 weeks of shooting weddings. I have no idea when or where I lost it. But it's been gone for a long time and I haven't bothered to get another yet...

The free one is coming. You have to have faith.

I've never lost one, because the Kirk L Bracket keeps it in place.

lol...then they are 4 months (or so) slow in mailing :lol: I'm okay. I have 2 spares and check it often...but I did check it often before I lost it. It's just something that is worth having a few extra as a safeguard.
