hi, hope you can help me,
i have upgraded my memory on my Laptop to 2gb and i need to set the performance options to get it to work properly ( because it only had 512mb from new), so can anyone advise me how best to set these, or do i just let the software do it all for me.
thanks

Well is your 2 gigs recognized already? If so then you are done. If not you might have to set a few bios options. Should work right away though if you bought the correct ram.

You could check your page file size. In your case I would set it to 2 gig statically. If you leave it on auto sizing your page file can get fragmented.

I have been having problems, and although my laptop can take 2GB, it will not run at all with both the 1gb cards fitted. The PC just comes up with a blank screen with a error message saying it can't find a file etc, and i can't do anything with it.
But it will run fine with the original 512mb and 1gb card fitted ?.
I have upgraded the bios succesfully, and it still won't run 2GB, so i tryed the performance options and just ran it in auto but still no joy....
I am out of ideas now, and the technical helpdesk where i got the memory from are out of ideas, and said i should try contacting the laptop manufacturer to see if there is anything they can suggest. They are convinced the laptop should run 2GB no problem.
Can anyone suggest anything i could try.
I run CS2 and really want the 2GB if possible, i can return the memory within 30 days and get my money back, but i want the extra speed if possible.
thanks for looking....

Try using 1 gig of memory first and isolate if the problem is on the new memory.

Ditto. Put in the new memory stick only and see if that runs.

Try to isolate the issue to a piece of memory by installing one at a time.

Check this site for memory info - http://www.crucial.com/ (external link)

I've found the information they provide is helpful - type of memory, max memory for your unit, etc. I have not purchased memory from them.

Put each 1GB stick in individually, then run Memtest X86 (external link) to test it.
