HI,

I'm not sure where you got the idea that you can't profile using ambient light but that is incorrect.

Great thanks for the quick response, I must admit I was confused myself but the kakky manual gave me the impression I could only use the studio lights plus the online tuts only show the same. I did in fact download your 30D csv file and transformed it onto my meter in the form of a backup. Until I get this thing sussed I am mostly interested in the exposure clipping function of which I need the profile to determine the DR. I figured that putting your profile on for the time being would be better than none for this purpose. Now that I know you can use ambient light I will do my own.
Being a software designer myself I thought the software was a bit basic especially not being able to convert a csv backup back to a spf editable profile unless I have missed summit.
regards

I loaded yyour 30D profile into Camera 1. Did I do the right thing hear as I would assume the basic config would be Camera 1 as well. So if I switch to Camera 2 that has no profile the EM will perform as it did before any profiles were added. I can then use your 30D Camera 1 until I create my own profile.
regards

it doesn't get it right here is what I did
I used two lights to calibrate using sekonic profile target II
I did that -3v +3 three shots
I used the software boom
I tested on the meter, it is still too dark

so I went ahead and adjust compensation to +5 or -5 i don't remember
Here is what I got boom cute ain't it

I would like to know how to calibrate sekonic profile target II properly.

It is too difficult to do it and the manual is so bad

I am still working on this issue and have been speaking with Sekonic for quite some time. They are aware there are bugs despite the easier process with DTS 2.0 and Target II.

Once I create a tutorial for a method that works consistently and reliably I will post. For now your best bet is to calibrate your meter and not worry about a custom profile. An incorrect profile is far worse than working without a profile at all.

Copy. I've been reading your various threads and you are the only one that makes sense of this mess. i'm trying to decide between the two top end models and i'm leaning towards the 756 because it will trigger my PM's and it has the spot meter. Money is not the issue but I hate buying technology that I might not or cannot use. Just how do you calibrate the 756 without using the Target's?

Unless there's a new meter I don't know about then I believe you're referring to the L-758DR. What are PM's? Do you mean PW's (Pocket Wizards)?

You can trigger your Pocket Wizard's wirelessly via any of 3 meters from Sekonic. The L-358 with the optional Pocket Wizard transmitter, the L-558R which is identical to the L-758DR with the exception of the USB connector for firmware upgrades and custom profiling. The L-558R is an excellent meter and has the built-in Pocket Wizard and the 1ยบ spot metering. They are available used at some very good prices.

Profiling is just not necessary for most people and it's just one more thing to make yourself crazy over. I highly recommend the L-758DR but not for the profiling. It's just great and does everything you could want or ask for in a meter but it's not for everyone. Most people do just fine with an L-358 and I would only suggest getting an L-558R or L-758DR if the built-in PW and spot metering are important to you.
