20D to 1DMK2, improvement?

I am looking at switching to a 1DMk2 from my 20D but I have one question. I shoot paintball for a few websites primarily so I like the speed of the 1D, but in my spare time I shoot a variety of things(automotive stuff, studio stuff, and recently landscapes and live music).

Am I going to notice much, if any improvement in image quality? What about high ISO performance? Like I mentioned, I have started shooting music recently and 1600 is going to be used pretty frequently. I know the 5D and MK3 are much better in that respect, but for all around use, and my current financial situation, the 1D fits me better.

Thanks!

Do it. Yes to all your answers.

ISO 3200 on the Mk. II is very good.

You're makin my life/decision making much easier! haha.

Would you consider $2400US to be a good price in good shape(a few little scuffs but all very minor) w/ approx 50k shutter actuations? Its local so I would be able to test it out before buying it as well. Good price or should I try to get them down?

ISO 1600 is really similar between the 20D and the 1D MK II, maybe the 20D is a "little" tad better and that's a stretch "little".

However, in AF department, there's no question about who wins and with paintball and super fast, unpredictable movements, you'll need that fast AF.

With 1.3x crop you lenses will become a little wider as in my case of the 24-70 which I find is really nice since I sold the Tokina 12-24 along with the 20D.

If you like the 20D, you will love the 1D MK II.

No.

But local is good, you get to try it. It's only worth $2000-$2100 with 50k on it.

jeez, ive seen a few people around here get ripped off then! I was under the impression taht 2400 was not great, but not terrible either. Im gonna see if he'll come down a bit, if not then I may look online.

Thanks for the info!

No problem. I had one for a short time and enjoyed it. It willl feel like a Super 20D in your hands. You won't be disappointed.

Just remember that even though it is a crop body, the Mk.II will not take EF-S or third part "digital only" lenses.

If you are OK with the weight (it's a brick!) then there's no comparison.

I just got a 20D as a second body and it doesn't compare to the MK2N for AF. I TRIED shooting my dogs with it and the keeper number dropped like a weight.

As for price, I paid under that amount for a MK2N with only 8000 actuations....I'd say $1500-2000 is a a decent price for the MKII

As Jason has said, bear in mind that it won't work with your Tamron 17-50 or Tokina 10-17.

jeez then i just might hold out and try to find a mk2n! I dont think ive seen one for that price.

About what is the life of the shutters on those things? Is 50k high? I know my 20D has about that many miles on it and it has no problems. I shoot about 5-8k images per event and i dont want to worry about my equipment failing.

I will be keeping the 20D so no worries there. I will also eventually be adding 24-70L(probably within a month of the new body).

Yeah, I bought mine on these forums from a guy who purchased the MK3 before it came out.

You'll see prices drop a little further as people buy the newer model but they eventually stabilize and I can't see them dipping much below what they already are (at least for a while)

I'm in the same books as the OP. Would like to purchase a 1D MK2 or N to play in tow with my 20D.
