Not sure if this is where it belongs so MODS please move it to the section it should be in, thank ya:D

The other night a funny (literally) came to my mind. After reading a spat that involved Jason Cole and minor details, I thought to myself, "If his stuff isnt as good as it gets then what is?" Then I realized that noone knows. Misconceptions of "perfect photos" are instilled in newbies and therefore get passed on through the "generations" of newbies. Example, "is this lens sharp at 100% crop?" This photo is too noise, try cleaning it up a bit.

Yet, what some doesnt realize is that grain can and does work for the photo as appossed to agains it. We sometimes have to step back and look at the photo as a whole. Try to invision what the photographer was going after, instead of picking out what we think are "technical imperfections"

So in the spirit of some famous lines used on here I put together a little piece. Enjoy:D:D:D:D

Good point you make....A pic can definately be analyzed to death technically while the artistic talent goes un-noticed. I once read a quote along the lines of "the subject always trumps the technical". You can have a technically perfect boring photo and have a technically imperfect wonderful photo.....what one is going to sell?

Very very true. Even the best mag covers have what some around her call "distracting features"

I love this thread already.

I am still looking for whoever came up with the Madden version of Photo critique.

[Madden Voice] "Now here's a guy who knows when to criticize and when to shut up".

I would rather have an abundance of "IMO"s, than the usual bunch of "You should have done this, now the photo sucks because you are not as good as me".

Or something like that.

'Distracting'?... Is a nipple on a Wedding Portrait. Other than the obvious elements (police car blocking your portrait subject, 'distracting' is a very subjective word.

Peace out. :)

Love it... ! The whole reason why we take pictues is to preserve a memory or a moment.. when did we become so critical and have to strive for perfection anyway? The lost art may be grainy, softly focused, have too many shadows, but carries a world of emotion and meaning.. that's the goal, right?

Good shot but i think the lettering should have been in White the RED detrack's from the shot lol
joking aside you make a very good point here Some of the nik picking of some shot's is beyond belife and often the poster has not asked for Critcal comment but like you is showing the shot as a whole package .

Rob.

I agree too - while still in a constant pursuit to make my photography as "perfect" as I can, my photo-journalism teacher instilled a very good lesson on this subject. He said something to the effect that if a photo 'works' - than nothing else matters!

I heard over in the glamour & nude forum something about some drama going on with people ragging on Jason Cole not too long ago, but I don't follow the wedding forum, so I feel "out of the loop"

Does anyone have a link to the thread(s) in question? And in particular, this "nipple in a wedding photo" has me intrigued!

I'm glad this funny thought came to you, 'cause I've just realized that this pose would work great with my sister and her daughter. I only hope I can nail it as well as you did.

Just, without all the red stuff.

Bravo
