While on holiday recently in the US, I finally took the plunge and bought a 70-200 f/4L IS.. This is one of the very first pictures I took with it - what do you think?

Thanks Rick. I thought it was sharp, but it's nice to have it confirmed!

Scarlett Nic - thank you very much.

Kevin - I agree, but I couldn't find any in the Saguaro National Forest! But I promise that a duck will be next:lol:

I thinks it's very nice, and would like to know how you handled the extreme dynamic range of a white flower in bright sunlight AND the shadow on the barrel of the cactus?

White flowers have been a real bugbear for me - so much so that I usually avoid them.

(Aren't you supposed to say "whilst on holiday . . . . ;) )

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

Thanks MDoc - think you are right, as it certainly looks as though the lens is a gem.

Glenn - you might be interested to know that I took no special steps to cater for the extreme dynamic range (no, not even fill flash!). I can't even say I did any pp on it, apart from a merest touch of sharpening. I did use a CPL filter - apart from that, it's a straight shot.

By the way Glenn 'while' is absolutely correct and is the preferred word, 'whilst' being considered, in many circles, as archaic.;)
