I'm going on the west coast trail, a 75km hike in BC, canada, that has mountains, water, ladders, and loads of fun. Apparently trekking poles are recommended, however, I will also have my camera... and as such I was thinking about a monopod / trekking pole combined solution.

Anyone done this? Suggestions on one? This is what I was considering.

I have a Leki; when I want a pair (mostly, for hiking), I'll mix it with one of a trekking pole set. I'd love to find a set which included 1/4-20 threaded head on one. But if I want to have a support and the place is tripod-unfriendly I'll take the single Leki.

Which Single Leki is it?
DOes it have a quick release or a ball head?
Are these things important?

REI sells some trekking poles that have a monopod-type setup on top of the pole.
When I hike/backpack, I take a mini tripod or use a jacket or sweater as a beanbag, or carry my carbon fiber full size tripod.

I've thought about doing this, but decided against in the end. The combined trekking pole/monopods are heavier than my chosen poles and the height, when used as a monopod, is woefully inadequate. I generally manage to find something to brace the camera against when I'm out walking, so I don't even bother with a monopod any more.

Doesn't have either - and I opted not to put one on. If I were to, it'd be in the way of the pole's most important function - stabilizing me while trekking. I don't remember the model. Pretty much find one that'll work for you as a trekking pole and consider the camera support function as gravy. The late Galen Rowell used to use his ski poles (interlooping the wrist straps) as a bipod when ski-touring. That's another eminently workable solution.
