Ok so my 1DMKII is not recognized in the EOS viewer utility? This makes things complicated because I am not able to change the sellers name that he put on it. Problem is I have tried two different disks, the one that came with the MKII and the one that came with my 20D. Versions 7 and 9.1 and neither seem to recognize the camera. I went to the Canon USA site and downloaded everything I could find to try to update the program and it still does not work. I downloaded drivers, add ons, updates, etc. Nothing seems to work.

What I am trying to do is get into the "camera settings" in options.

Does anyone know how I can access the camera settings? Or know how to make this program work to recognize the camera?

Version on my computer is 1.2. Does Canon have a download for a never version that can service everything from a MKIII to 5D to 30D to XTi on their website that I can download?

EDIT: seems like I had a typeO in the tittle, should be Recognized. Not Regonixed.

I assumed you used the firewire cable and not the USB?

No not the firewire. My computer is too old so it only has USB. Is that the difference? I can't see how but would that make any difference?

I had this same problem. You have to use firewire.

Chris, like i stated in my email, for some reason, you HAVE to use the firewire in order to get into the personal functions. if your computer is too old, you can run to a near buy best buy and pick up something like this:

http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16815124003 (external link)

or this if you have a laptop:

http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16815158006 (external link)

as for why they decided to only use firewire, only god knows, i still can't figure that one out...

Chris, yup, you need firewire. :)

I'm running out afterwork to pick on one for my system at home too. I don't know why Canon changed it to firewire???

That is wierd that this camera needs firewire and my "newer" 20D (newer by about 5 months) uses USB.

don't forget that the 1D uses that cable for way more than the 20D does. with the firewire, you can also change quite a few of the personal functions which are really great like frame rate numbers, combo settings and a few other cool things.

Sorry Snir I must have missed the firewire part. Good to know, wish I read that earlier though :o would have saved myself a lot of stress and time installing it various times. LOL

I ran in to this today. My new XPS doesn't have PCMCIA and my 1394 cords are UAB. Couldn't conect at all.

I had to go to my older Inspiron 9300 which has PCMCIA and hook up my firewire.

Both run vista and EOS Utility 20.a

The 1D series, right from the get-go, have been FireWire - it's only with the Mk III that Canon's dropped it in the 1s. Remember, when the first ones came out, USB 1.1 was the norm; can you imagine transferring a 4 MP raw file over 12 Mbps max?
