My other half would like to know what kind of dog that is as she wants one.

I have no idea honestly. It's my friend's puppy.

Wait, I paid $1800 middle of January, and they are $2K now? I like that. :)

See? Another happy customer!

I just paid $1850!

This camera is one hell of a deal.

No, it's just reality. It's not like you didn't know it was going to happen.

Yes, you're right of course. I figure it's about $600 - $800 per year in depreciation (more with a new model intro, like the 1D4 for example) in upper-end bodies but it doesn't make me any happier about it. ;)

Same thing happened to my 50d. Don't worry about it - are the images you're getting not worth the 600-1000-whatever in depreciation?

I wonder what it's like to go on a car forum and listen to them whine after they lose 30% once they drive it off the showroom! We have it easy...

As a small aside, I can't believe I waited so long to get this camera. I should have just bit the bullet last summer instead of effing around with the 50d. WOW. ISO 3200 looks like ISO 800 on my old 50d. Not even an exaggeration.

This is the full frame, I just cropped the top a bit - the birds were focused on with the center point. Granted, a lot of cameras could have taken this shot - I just wanted to post something. The AF speed is mind boggling.

yup. like NorCalNomad said, there's just a slight delay between new tech and collector status.

btw, congrats. I remember feeling exactly the same way you do right now when I opened the box and mounted a lens for the first time. incredible. and yes, first time I tried ridiculously high ISO's and was amazed.

What is horrid is how fast you get used to it. Wait until you try another camera body after using your 1d3 for a month. :D

Yeah, it leads to buying a 1DsmkIII to be your alternate body, replacing your 40D, because you can't use the 40D after a while :-)

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I went the other way and picked up a 1Ds3 to replace the 40D, and then picked up a 1D3 as business picked up. The ease of swapping back and forth between bodies is fantastic.

If I say that 1D3 has a clean and usable ASA3200. Am I expecting too much from it or I'm just about right!?

Great deals being reported lately. I have to say I feel somewhat jealous that I paid 2k for a more used model, but Ive had the pleasure of its use for 6 months now too, so you could say thats worth a couple hundred.

The way I'd put it, at least in my experience, is that ISO 3200 is quite usable for a lot of things but does tend to lose the finer details in noise. Try it out and see for yourself. For what I shoot, I try to stick with ISO 1600, but in a pinch I've switched to 3200 with no regrets. For some types of shooting in fact ISO 3200 makes the shoot.

I've always felt that my images suffer horribly due to not having a box in the cupboard.

I lol'd.

That said; my 5D is gathering dust right now. I thought the 1.3 crop factor would be nuisance; but I don't even notice it.

And ISO 3200 is pretty close to 1600 on the 5D; and I shoot all the time at 1600. This camera has blown me away.
