Bill in shots like these where on the rider do you focus?

Thanks

These were done using AI Servo, 10FPS and Ring of Fire @ F8, so plenty of DOF at the target area. Focus was on the riders as they approached the fence and the camera did the rest.

Did you focus on their face or body?

Thanks

He mentioned ring of fire, so I'm guessing just body - the area in the VF would be too large for just the face.

Yeah, it leads to buying a 1DsmkIII to be your alternate body, replacing your 40D, because you can't use the 40D after a while :-)

CORRECT! Exactly my temptation, for quite a while now... :D

hey yall,
If I say that 1D3 has a clean and usable ASA3200. Am I expecting too much from it or I'm just about right!?

...With ultra-fine detail at ASA/ISO 3200 (from a straight OOC .JPG, and not to mention ACR/LR conversion which will yield in higher terminal resolution):

Case-study #1D35148-3200:

https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=9975735&postcount=812

And here's an even more demanding, up-close sequency of a pretty "spatially-complex" scene, precisely tailored to review, with the naked eye, how detail is handled, all the way to ISo6400 in the mid-to-high tones (ALL at 100% from Lightroom RAW conversions + competetent noise-reduction):

http://www.pbase.com …/image/101760717/original (external link)
http://www.pbase.com …/image/101760720/original (external link)
http://www.pbase.com …/image/101760721/original (external link)
http://www.pbase.com …/image/101760714/original (external link)
http://www.pbase.com …/image/101760716/original (external link)

The 1D3 holds detail very well, up until ISo5000ec-6400, where ultra-fine details faints a bit.

Enjoy,
