That's pretty dramatic but I hope the pilot didn't do this specifically for the camera...

The first time I saw them do this, I didn't know what to think?!

Come to find out, it is done routinely to break the water tension (suction) off the floats to get airborne on these smaller aircraft. They just don't have the luxury of excess power to overcome this phenomenon in a reasonable distance.

Still looks spooky though. He was headed stright for the bank (which is about 40ft to my right - you can see grass in the lower right of the photo) and then turned and lifted off. I still shake my head watching these guys.
