I would like to test my camera today after i read that PDF file, and see how it will perform, i always get OOF shots out of continuous shots, that with 300 f2.8L IS on this camera, even with my 1D2n i get the same problem, sometimes 1D3 has more keepers sometimes 1D2n which leads me to think that both are same boat issue at the end, but will check it out today and see.

No, it didn't go well, problems as usual, many OOF, and when i tried the settings from that PDF file posted somewhere here it went even worse, so i just take whatever it is, i can't send my camera or lenses to Canon service because they are bad charging us and i don't want to give them money too much that are not worth to spend, i will accept the results i get now :-(

I'm going to give mine one last chance tomorrow Tareq otherwise its off to the repair shop next week. I'll keep you posted as to how it progresses and if it needs any adjustment by Canon at least it'll give you an idea if they can improve its AF performance before you consider getting yours looked at.

Is this happening with just your 300mm f/2.8? Might be a dumb quastion but what AF mode do you have it in? are you using back button AF (AF-on)?

OK, keep us informed if you are done with that.

It is on AF not MF, and no, it is not just with 300, even with 70-200, i mean all my cameras old to newest have this problem when i use AI-Servo and continuous modes.

Could it be that your expectations are too high? You are going to get some OOF frames when using AI Servo in continuous mode (especially 10 fps). What percentage of your shots are OOF?

Let's say about 4-6 out of 10 or out of 8 for 1D3/1D2n

Tareq, the AF system even in the 1 series is fallible even when working perfectly. Perhaps it's your technique? When shooting wide open it's imperitive to find areas of high contrast on the subject to give the AF system its best chance. Not saying something might well be wrong with your equipment (we all know the 1D3 is notoriuous) but if you haven't already done so it be worthwhile researching the techniques top sports photographers use to maximise their keeper rate.

are you using AF-on button? also are you holding the button down well shooting your series? I cant imagine that 4-6 of your series of 10 photos on all you bodies can be OOF.... is it possible to see some examples? from what your explaining sounds like user error.

The fact that you're getting a large number of OOF shots with both bodies leads me to think it could be your technique.

Have you had the 1D Mark III fixed when recalled by Canon?
What is CF III-3 setting?
What are you predominantly shooting when getting these OOF shots?

It is really difficult to go and explain all the details, but i can assure that i don't use AF-on, and when i say 4-6 i was meaning that many times when i shoot at 10fps or 8fps, but sometimes when i shoot only 4-7fps i can get somewhere between 3-6 shots in focus, let's say if i shoot 200 shots for the game, i may get 80-120 shots OOF, another time i get 40-90 OOF, same settings of camera, so i can't understand how my camera behaving, sometimes i become very lucky and get say about 20-40 OOF out of 200 shots per se.
