Very encouraging, I just wish I could have one for this weekend at El Centro Air Show. I am also seeing a lot of 1Dmk II's which I have also seen some pretty fantastic pictures from

Wish I could make it to El Centro this year but too much other stuff going on...

Oh well, at least I got to see the place a couple weeks ago and I'll see the BAs again at St George UT.

That is a bummer, I was hoping to meet some POTN and Fencecheckers there, but it seems as though not many are going now. I heard something about the weekend after but no specifics as to what is going on there. IF it is a practice weekend at El Centro I would rather go to that and redo my hotel reservation. It would be a better deal if the hay bales are open to shoot from.

Hay bales close (I think) tomorrow through the airshow on Saturday.

Thoroughly sterile aerobatic box will be in effect per the NAFEC PAO.

Well gang, I bid fond but sad farewell to my 1D3 body a couple days ago...

I still have my trusty ol' 30D and 5D Classic though...

And I bid hello (I bought Tony's 1D3.)

I aim to take as good a care with this body as Tony has. I'm heading to Indian Wells this weekend to attend the BNP Paribas Open, so maybe I'll have some nice tennis pics to post next week.

Question for all of you fellow 1D3 owners. Do any of you use the Flex NR software from PixMantra? I know there's a thread dedicated to it but it doesn't seem like there's any current interest in it so I was hoping some of you could offer fresh opinions.

I have a wedding coming up at the end of the month and I was just curious if it was worth exploring Flex NR as a way of maximizing my ISO 6400 capabilities (the ceremony location is super dark and I want to avoid flash other than the procession/recession). I should also say that I use LR4 as my main editor but I also have CS4 with the Noisware plugin. Thanks in advance.

I use ETTR noise reduction.

I don't really like noise reduction... it always makes photos look like paintings to me. I use a tiny bit, but if it's too grainy, I usually end up deleting the photo or just not worrying about it. ISO6400 is extremely dodgy on this camera.

I routinely shoot at ISO 6400 and use Topaz DeNoise for my noise reduction. I've never used FlexNR, and it does not seem to be supported any more, but I have used Noiseware Professional, Noise Ninja, Nik Software Dfine 2.0, Neat Image, and the built in noise reduction function in Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom. From what I can tell I get the best, most realistic results for High ISO noise reduction from Topaz Denoise.

And a 100 percent crop showing the noise (and white balance issues) I had to deal with:

But in my experience people worry way too much about noise. It generally does not show up in prints and simply resizing and resampling in photo editing software eliminates much of it.

That said, if you can use flash you should do so....judicious application of flash makes for much better photos. See Neil van Niekirk's website (the blue column) for flash photography tutorials and tips: http://neilvn.com/tangents/ (external link)

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll just press with what I have and not stress it too much. I'm way harder on seeing noise in my photos than others anyways (besides fellow photogs). Thanks again.
