Definitely still learning the ropes of this camera (talk about a huge change from my T1i), but I really like it. I think it's smarter than me though.. - Kady

Oct 15, 2012 17:08 | #6606 I was playing with the AF point stick this weekend so nice when switching from landscape shot to bird shot. I find i keep my eye on the viewer more with this camera. Great that you got to use it in work. I do for my work (get to write off my gear that way) on construction sites. Although when i get overwhelmed and a shot is immediate i do find myself jumping to P mode .... waterrockets wrote in post #15126342 We had a Gov't official in our offices today, and I was assigned the photographer job. The 1D MkIII was a great tool. I'm still so inexperienced, that I was learning 1D techniques during the event, or applying learned techniques for the first time. The thumbstick AF point selection and all those cross-type AF points is REALLY nice. I was shooting with the 70-200, and I was able to nail focus on images that need no cropping at all -- maybe just a minor leveling -- as I was able to follow rule of the thirds with my AF point selection. Silent shutter was awesome. ETTL flash bounced off the white ceiling was just perfect. Low-light focus never let me down (room was dimmed for a big screen demo). This body is really really nice. I don't see how I'll ever have anything but a 1D as my primary body in the future... though I think I prefer 1.3x to 1x crop... so here's to hoping they offer them again... Oct 15, 2012 22:28 | #6612 I have looked at countless images in this thread and am very impressed. Can someone explain what it is about this camera, with 10.1 mp, that produces results that rival models with twice the mp's? https://www.flickr.com/photos/22055591@N05/albums

Let's assume that the average web image posted in this thread is of the dimensions 1024x768. If we multiply those numbers together, we get 786,432, meaning that the images posted in this thread are 0.79 megapixels. At this size, any camera can look pretty good. It has more to do with the lens that is in front of the image sensor than the resolution. Also, the 1.3x crop factor helps make the lenses look even better.

When you're downsizing for the web, the difference between 10mp and 21mp is pretty negligible. I have a 1d3 and a 5d2. I could post the same photo from both bodies, and you'd probably never know the difference. If I blew them up to a poster sized print, you might be able to see something. Honestly, I have compared RAW of swimmers with the same lens and exposure settings between my 550D and my 1D3, and the 1D images look better on screen, and print nicer on paper and canvas. 1D MkIV | 1D MkIII | 550D w/grip & ML| EF 70-200mm f2.8L| EF 24-105mm f4L IS | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS | Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC | 430EXii | EF 50mm f1.8
