Interesting. I have been missing Birds and my dog chasing the frisbee and wanted something to blame it on rather than me. Sigh i know its me.

I don't have any IS glass that I can use on my 1D3.

From my T2i use with EF-S glass, IS never messes up high shutter speed shots, but it can cause issues with "lower" high speeds, like 1/350 or so, if you're panning. I think that I might like "Mode 2" IS on some of the longer lenses for soccer, like if/when I get a 300 or 400mm...

In general though, IS has less and less effect as shutter speed goes up. At 1/2000, I don't think the IS could mess up a shot if it tried.

Thanks.... I was watching a show with Peter Lik and he was going through when he uses a long lens for depth in landscape .... i personally cant stand to listen to him but he does have nice work. That is shot with my 150-500.

Not denouncing the 1D Mk III by any means, but there are some advantages to the 1D Mk IV.

Better high ISO performance as well.

Is there an up to date custom functions thread somewhere? I searched it, but most are older. Just wondering. I've messed around with a few of the settings but would like suggestions on what others think work best for various situations. I do almost all dog photography, portrait or action shots (obviously settings would change for either portrait or action). To say all of the features of this camera are overwhelming is a bit of an understatement

#1, #3, and #4 were the 135L. #2 was the Sigma 30mm 1.4 (which works fine on 1.3 crop in my experience, below f4).

It's way overkill for me too, so no worries haha. I got an insanely good deal on mine that I just couldn't pass up!

Had a good weekend hike finally. The 1D started to feel comfortable and I went all manual for the whole day (im still a big newb).

Not that I got a lot of great shots but i had enough close enough that it started to feel good. Had the Bigmo (sigma 150-500) on most of the day let the T2i take on the smaller lens but didnt really use it much.

Finally caught some birds
