^ Not bad for your first outting, Julie... The 1D3 + 100-400L did a decent job... They are not 'super tack sharp' like a fast long prime lens would deliver, but I'd say they are good enough... Please contribute more when you can... Anyhoo... Uno from moi...

Your pictures are great. You did a fine job. You and I have almost the exact same equipment but I think I would have gone with my 7D and 100-400mm zoom.

the light was bad that day and 7D cheeses me off in bad light so that why I went with 1DIII

I have been pondering selling 1DIII and trying to get a 5DIII but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up this camera. It does produce the goods and cost me very little. I kind of use it as my go to camera that's going to do most subjects and the RAW files wont take forever to upload unlike my 7D and particularly 5DII I find it hard to sell gear, its almost like giving away a child

I've been pondering the same thing about upgrading to the 5d3, many things the 5d3 has that I want (quieter shutter in the newer silent modes, 2nd video body for me, FF, higher res, lowlight high ISO, etc), but the 1d3 does a hell of a job still and the cost jump is pretty high up there. Don't know if I'd be able to let my 1d3 go .The Magic Lantern guys figuring out how to get the 5d3 to record raw video though and higher video resolutions then 1080 has me thinking though

I hear ya on not selling. They do become part of the family, don't they?
I can't say enough good about the 5D Mk III. Some of my buds have bought them and I get to play with one every so often. But they are a little out of my price range right now. Maybe later on.
BTW, my old work horse F1n still sits on my desk and watches my every move. It ain't going no where either!

Went to the beach today and took a few (1500) pics today. I met a couple of people who were doing a shoot and asked if I could 'tag along'.

I had the exact same "lineup" as you have: 5Dm2, 7D, and 1Dm3. I got the 1Dm3 last, and as soon as I got it, I loved it. I had sold a 50D to get the 7D; but in less than a year, I realized it was the body I liked least of the three.

So I sold both the 5Dm2 and 7D and bought a 5Dm3. It's a wonderful body, probably the best of any I have had, but the 1Dm3 still gets plenty of use. For me its responsiveness, solid feel and clean smaller files will keep it humming for quite a while.

I have had a 1D3 for the last few years, most recently with a 5D3, and previously with a 5D.... The 1D3 was my primary body until the 5D3 came along, and now I am replacing the 1D3 with a 5D2. Originally, I had passed over the 5D2 because it was so similar to the 5D and I didn't need the extra mp. Now, however, I am finding myself totally in love with it.

Guess I'm just a FF kinda guy. I will very much miss the battery life, weathersealing, and overall responsiveness of the 1D3.

I like the 7D for the reach if only the 1DIII had more cropability, I'm talking birds here
