I'm torn between the three of them at times. Anyway I'm going on holiday later in the year and I want to take one DSLR only. Im heading to lord Howe Island where the main photography will be wildlife and landscape. The 5DII is just not fast enough for birds in flight but great for landscape, the 7D is pretty good for wildlife and not too bad for landscape but the processing is way more work. The 1DIII would be perfect IF I had more reach than my 100-400,(does it focus well with a 1X4 TC?) and will I miss the wider angle, I use a 17-40L. Im very temped to take only 1DIII, just dont want to regret the decision, lots of wildlife over there. any opinions? FUJI XT5 + XT3 & a bunch of Fuji lenses, Mavic Air2 drone

May 20, 2013 09:26 | #7237 Might be a good question for some of the wildlife shooter threads. It seems to me that the 1D is straddles the line between wildlife and landscape for you, but I can't imagine you'd regret taking the 7D or the 1D3. If you have room for another body somewhere, just cap the 5D and bring it and the 7D? 1D MkIV | 1D MkIII | 550D w/grip & ML| EF 70-200mm f2.8L| EF 24-105mm f4L IS | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS | Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC | 430EXii | EF 50mm f1.8

The 17-40 should be wide enough, and if it isn't, you can always shoot a couple of frames and stitch them, which would have the added benefit of giving you more mp for landscape-type printing. |Fuji X-E2|Fuji X-E1|Fuji 18 f/2|Fuji 35 f/1.4|Fuji 60 f/2.4 macro|Fuji 18-55 f/2.8-4|Fuji 55-200 f/3.5-4.8

I would defiantly not take the 5DII due to it's slow AF. And no the 100-400 and 1.4 do not get along very well in my opinion...in fact it might focus at 100mm...but I don't think AF will work at 400mm. Although I would rather have the 1DIII over the 7D any day of the week, this might be one time I'd suggest taking the 7D. Give you more reach...but more importantly...more pixels for more cropping. But at the end of the day I'd prob still leave it at home and take the 1DIII and live with a little softer images caused by heavy crop. D. Warren Robison

I'm down to choosing between these two cameras for the holiday and I'm stumped, like them both for different reasons. I know this is not exactly very fair to either camera as they are all taken in different lighting. If both look equal I will probably take 7D because of the reach alone although I find the focus and speed better on 1DIII

These are all lovely shots and no I could not tell the difference between the 2 cameras from these shots. The set is excellent. You did well with both cameras!

You do well with the 7D on wildlife... That 'roo must be a pretty heavy crop? That made me smile as it says more on the processing than the camera, yes the roo is a close crop, 100-400l and about 50 metres from him FUJI XT5 + XT3 & a bunch of Fuji lenses, Mavic Air2 drone
