These are all lovely shots and no I could not tell the difference between the 2 cameras from these shots. The set is excellent. You did well with both cameras!

:D just in case anyone wanted to know #1 #3 #5 and #7 were the 1DIII photos. Im still undecided. Have to admit I do prefer the 1DIII files especially the post processing stage. I have recently read that quite a few of the birds on Lord Howe have little fear of humans meaning I can get a lot closer than I thought I would be able to, if the 17-40 is wide enough for landscapes I may still end up taking 1DIII. In the process of testing both cameras for all manner of shots before I make up my mind.

airbutchie or others, I'm shooting action shots for a swim team again next week, and I have a question about AF expansion on the 1D3. I've previously shot using expansion, but for fast swimmers in fly, the drops in front of their face seem to draw the focus. Would disabling expansion help with this, assuming I can keep the center point on their goggles? My thought is that it won't help because there are drops in front of the goggles anyway.

Here's a sample shot so you can see what I mean about focus coming to the drops in front of her face (click image for full size):

^ I usually shoot with a 'single' AF point (no AF expansion)... Works well so far with my surfing captures... Hope that helps... Anyhoo... Uno from moi... Happy Memorial Weekend everyone!!!

Don't want to get my hair wet today... Hhehehehehe...

;) :D

PS. Good capture, waterrockets... Even with the focus on the water droplets in front of his face...

Thx. I'm sure you'll be surprised to hear that swimmer is actually a beautiful 17-year-old girl. Swimming is amazing, as she looks so strong and fierce, and is really stunning out of the water -- probably the prettiest one sees in a given day...

I'll try dropping expansion to see if it changes anything.

Haven't been shooting much lately, especially with my 1D3, but I trust it a lot more since it got replaced by Canon a few months ago. Here is some AAA baseball I did last week...
