I sat on the path watching a couple of Grey Herons near the pond, waiting for them to take off or interact when a small group of people walked past me. I glance over my shoulder and think: "is that an owl?" So I point the lens, focus and click, no time for adjustments of any kind. I thought the shot would be a total miss as they were in deep shade and I couldn't see anything, but it's fine and sure enough, that was an owl, a Eurasian eagle-owl to be exact. Here's the shot. How weird is that? Wild Birds of Europe: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=19371752

Hopefully it was just a fluke. Levina de Ruijter wrote in post #17926778 Oh dear... Keeping fingers crossed it was just a fluke, Chet. Chet wrote in post #17926804 Yeah. Kind of interested to see what they tell Joayne and what the price of repair is.

I wonder if it has been injured or something... But a very cool image! Thanks, Jo. I thought so too. And unusual. I mean, this guys was walking through the park carrying an owl! I'm glad I managed that one shot at least. Wild Birds of Europe: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=19371752

I think of it as using the "bulb" setting ![]() Hopefully it's an easy and inexpensive fix, Jo!! Wild Birds of Europe: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=19371752

ZchDnn Senior Member More info Post edited over 7 years ago by ZchDnn. | Mar 09, 2016 16:11 | #9296 bildeb0rg, finally got round to SAVING these images. I was stupid, lazy and had a slight accident with my newly acquired 70-200... so I was feeling 'meh'. Essentially replicated my settings off of my 5D from last time... boy was that a mistake. Fortunately post processing + my partner/second shooter saved the day. Here's a few of the first of the night: Image hosted by forum (780171) © ZchDnn [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. So, I need to adjust something or other. The focusing seemed great through the viewfinder but it seems to just miss the moment. Work: CXSTLEdotcom

bildeb0rg Goldmember More info | Mar 10, 2016 05:50 | #9297 read about your 70-200 in your other thread and feel for you. however i would have gone straight to your 50 f1.8 over the 24-105. as for settings i would need exif intact to help with that. based on the pics you posted i would say increase iso to 1600+ to freeze the action and worry about the noise later. in post increase the contrast and colour and crop ruthlessly.

My partner used the 50mm and saved the day... I don't know why I didn't bump up the ISO any more, assuming 1000 would be the limit. Silly little mistakes Work: CXSTLEdotcom

bildeb0rg Goldmember More info | 1600-3200 cleans up with a bit of work and you can crop right down to 2000 px on the long side and still get a useable 10x8 print. Try and avoid H if you can. If I go that high I dial in 2/3 of a stop positive comp so it's really only a 1/3 stop gain, but it keeps the noise down. The lights look horrific, I'll assume they were 500w each, ask if they can up them to 1000w for next time. Did you use the cf settings I sent you re AF and release priority? They should save you a lot of missed focus files esp if you use off centre points. I had a look at your site and there's some good pics there
