Having recently converted to Canon for shooting airshows I was looking for something to backup my 1Dmkiv. Saw one of those too good to be true ads somewhere besides the usual places you look. Said Canon 1D mkiii, bought new for backup for a wedding never used again. Although highly suspicious it was within driving distance and made arrangements to view in a virus safe situation. This thing still has the protective film on the LED's. Not a mark on it and after a bit of testing and negotiation it was mine.

Just a sparrow from the decking of my new forever home in Scotland and the view I'll waking up to. Seven more shifts and I'm retiring to Galloway, just over the border.

Sorry to hear that, Chris. :-(
Did you try it with another battery?

I do hope you have a backup camera.

The aftermarket battery I have no longer inserts into the Canon charger. I purchased a new battery today, hope that's it. ... and no, I have no other working camera.

It could very well be the battery!

I still have my 1DIII. The battery in it was fine last time I shot with the camera. I mean, literally thousands of shots on a full charge. Then, after a few months of inactivity, I turn on the camera and nothing. Turned out the camera was fine, the battery was dead. So I have good hopes that with another battery your 1DIII will do just fine again!

Keeping fingers crossed!

Not sure if it is your problem but there have been a few posts on POTN related to third party batteries swelling over time to the point they were difficult to insert into the camera. In your case it is into the charger. Should be easy to check the parts that make contact with the charger.
