I've been using RSE to convert my RAW images. What I like the best is the fast workflow. Adjust all the pics, copy settings over on similar images and then click to convert them all and go do something else while my computer cranks away. RSE is a fast system for minor exposure/color/saturation/sharpness tweaking and batch conversion.

I have a new computer with Vista. RSE is gone from the web. I'm thinking of getting Photoshop Essentials 5.0. Will this work well for tweaking and batch conversion?

If yes, does anyone have a good workflow for converting a lot of files? I sat and played with Essentials on a friends machine and a quick test drive had me working one picture at a time. Plus saving the new jpegs to a different folder seemed tedius.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Rawshooter was taken over by Adobe and rejigged with more bells and whistles to become Lightroom, worth checking out as it has a lot of fans. It can also do some basic image editing as well as RAW conversion (crop, clone, spot removal, red eye removal etc). It is also a powerful tool for organising and cataloguing your images.

Lightroom has full batch processing capability, work on one, select similar shots and click 'synch' to do them all the same. You can then quickly glance through them to check for any minor corrections that may be needed individually. It will then batch resize / convert to jpeg / save to folder with a couple of key clicks.

It has really speeded up my workflow.

I haven't made the switch yet, but you might want to take a look at Lightroom.

DPP 2.1 that came with my 30D is about the same - you might want to install it and give it a whirl before buying something new. ^^ The saturation/sharpness tools take a little poking to find, but it's worth it. :)

Why not use Canon's own DPP? It should be faster than RSE from personal experience with both of them. The curves/levels may throw you off at first, but it's a very powerful tool.

While Elements 5.0 is good for many reasons... from what I understand, batch RAW processing is a no go... its a one by one process. I bought Lightroom mainly for its RAW processing, but hopefully upcoming updates will make it better for (my) workflow too.

Have to agree, though, with the others... try DPP if you haven't already.

Well, you can batch process in ACR, technically. Just 'select all", and adjust as desired. I just use it to change WB for all pics, and to use the "Auto" exposure button to baseline all the images so I can use ACR to write a JPG of each file for sorting.

DPP is now in version 3.0.1.5. Install whatever came with your camera and then upgrade to it. Although I use a different converter for single images, I find DPP excellent for fast batch conversions if I have a lot on my plate.

I managed to upload RSE from links on the web and I'm operating on Vista. Can't understand why you have a problem.

Jeffrey - RSE was the free version of RSP. The last camera that it supported was the 30D. I agree that it was/is a very good program. Damned Adobe thought so too I guess. I use it for my first choice.

DPP is good however. Quite accurate in color rendition (sRGB).

Have a look at Bibble. I downloaded the evaluation version last week and find it has a great range of features in comparison to DPP. The Lite version in particular offers a lot for just $69.

You guys are wonderful. Special thanks to tzalman, I thought my beloved RSE was gone from the net.

I first used DPP, then moved to RSE which I thought was better for large batches with similar low-demand fixes.

Uh-Oh....one last problem. When I ran my newly downloaded RSE it told me it had to be registered. I clicked OK and the registration failed (nobody home on the far end of course). I wonder if RSE will quit working since it will be impossible to register?
