I have a friend who recently bought the Image Tank right before leaving for the Bahamas. I'm hoping some of you good people can offer some kind of solution to her delema. The following is her story:

The Image Tank arrived late the day before I left for the Bahamas and I plugged it in and charged the battery all night.

Next day, I transferred a small CF card full of images to it and it appeared to work fine.

After that, I transferred more images to it and it seemed to work fine.

(I could see that the icons were blinking as they should be and then there was less space available than there had been.)

On the trip I had filled a 1 gig CF card and tried to transfer images. No go.

When I arrived I plugged the image tank into the electricity in the wall and transferred images, and then continued to re-charge the battery.

After that, I tried to transfer more images and it won't.

When I turn it on, it goes through its start up menu, then shows the icon that represents the hard drive, then turns itself off.

I HOPE I can get these images off the Image Tank drive, but I have no idea what is wrong.

Any suggestions?

Linda

It's not clear from this whether you had the tank connected to your computer at this point. I have noticed with mine that it will sometimes go off if I turn it on and it's not connected to something -- either my 'puter or a cf card.

a camera, some lenses, various paraphernalia...

I have the 40 gig Image Tank G2 and haven't had any problems with it. I used it for one 2 week period where I had over 20 gigs of files in it and they transferred back to my computer just fine (it took awhile).

He may have a cable problem or a power problem. My G2 goes a long time on a battery charge but it sounds like his isn't. If he bought the optional external AA battery holder, he might try using that. I bought it but have never had to use it because the internal battery lasts so long.

I had a similar problem with my Sima storage drive - I was ready to send it back - for the heck of it instead of using a USB hub I plugged it straight into the computer it worked - it turned out to be a bad USB port. My drive would shut off just as I tried to down load the images.

Thank you for your comments. My friend is following along and will probably post at some point. She is still catching up from her trip.
