With all tried thus far I'd consider renting glass and send it in to Canon to have it removed. Not worth the risk of damaging the glass to pursue other options at this point.

OK its stuck, the worse thing that is going to happens is that you have a semi permanently attached polarizer on you 24-105. If this is the case you could purchase another 77mm polarizer to use on your other lenses. This is a relatively standard filter and you should be able to find one at a camera store on the way or in Alaska.

Leave it on Billy... No big deal for now... You can always order a wrench and have it shipped to your destination location...

EDIT: Since this is precission gear, I'd really send it back to Canon.

Along the way, there will be shops with possibly alternative methods of removal...

If you're ready to trash the filter than
the big vice, was perfect for a very precise but rough, grip... But (even with rubber bands and electrical tape) it did leave teeth marks on the filter... and the tape left adhesive residue on the filter too...

If I had taken my time washing the lubricant off the filter, I wouldn't have scratched it at all...

Folorn hope... but if you have a uv filter on underneath, you can try taking both off. My polarising filter tends to get stuck, but I find if I take both filters off the lens, I can get them to come apart.

Try the temperature differential set up. Leave the lens/cam outside to warm up or warm it up some other way, and then apply cold only to the male part of the equipment, the filter. It works for me on stuck bottle lids.

i think at this part im going to have to send it back to canon. im just going to damage the lens if i try anything else, and i dont want to ruin my $150 B+W polarizer either. unfortunatly no one in my area sells good filters like that, and i wont be ruining my lenses by using a cheap POS filter either....

do you have time to stop for a filter wrench before your flight?

i don't know if it'd be any better than the rubber band trick, but by now....I'm sure you'll try anything.

no matter what, good luck, and at least it's stuck on a good landscape lens....

Last food for thought...

I used very fine magnification enhancing oils in professional microbiology work... The oil was temporarily in contact with the microscope lens... Later it was washed off the lens...

It would work well as a lubricant... But finding it is another story...

And getting it inside the filter might cause cleaning problems...

Go with Canon Service... Like you say... Better to be safe than real sorry...

At this point I'd say don't worry about scratching the paint on the filter. Two wrenches, one one the protected lens and one on the filter is probably your best bet.

Enjoy your trip. Alaska is a special place and you will get great photos with or without a CP.

I suggest doing what the Mythbusters do when they need to remove one object from another object...But then again that would leave nothing but shards of metal and glass everywhere.

Nevermind Im no help!

If it is indeed not cross threaded try using the palm of your hand and push down on the filter ring while turning it.

Sometimes with filters, it's a matter of gripping them too hard and the deformation causes the inner ring to bind. A light but firm grip will sometimes succeed where more force will not.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!
