well guys good news. i got to anchorage, and went to the local service center since i had a long morning before i got on the ship. They got the filter off for me and im currently on the ship watching the most beautiful mountains go by.

Glad to hear it. How did they do it? With a filter wrench?

I have a B+W CPL that ALWAYS gets stuck on the UV filter I have on the lens.

A couple days ago, when I had to shoot through glass, I used it. It got stuck as usual. My typical solution is a light tap on my granite kitchen countertop. A few taps, and it dislodges.

However that day, it refused to dislodge. I tapped it a little harder...CRACK!@# R.I.P. UV Filter...:cry::cry:

I cleared out the glass from the cracked UV Filter, and tried some more. It's still stuck! I'll try the freezer trick next.

This is annoying...

It manages to always get stuck...and I don't screw it in hard at all...

I had this happen. What I did was use my headphone cable. Wrapped it around the polarizer and used it as a wrench/lasso. Worked like a charm

top tip; BEFORE you put any filter on, try a little vaseline, copper grease, baby lotion, washing up liquid, hand cream, on the threads. Anything to give you a shot at getting the thing back off. The only thing more prone to galling than alumimium/aluminium, is stainless/stainless. You could try holding the lens, filter down, on some ice cubes for a couple of minutes. You want to "shrink" just the filter threads, not the lens barrelk threads aswell. Might work...

Google sent me to this tread and the headphone cable trick worked like a charm. I've been using rubber bands, rubber gloves, raging force and excessively dirty language for a couple of days already. Thank you funkybuddha!

You know what is a surprisingly common problem (also with jar lids etc)? People crushing and de-forming it a little when trying to grab it so tightly to twist it. Often it just takes a gentle hand. Not in all cases of course, but quite a lot.
