I now have the 1D mkIII but traveling back from Malaysia to Brunei the airline lost my suitcase with all my cable, charger, software, manuals, spare battery.

Now only have camera with 85% life in battery left and no way of recharging. hahahahaaa

6 hours after flight they still have not found suitcase.

Oh bye the way camera is amazing. I was on the train between KL and airport at about 160kms tried 10F/PS it focused in on a light post 10ft from train then back to infinity in the middle of the burst.

That's a bummer about you bag. This is why most of us would never check any gear you can carry on. Unforunatly I also have to check charger, cables, tripod, etc.
Congrats., enjoy your new camera.

I generally carry everything on me, especially if my kids are with me. I make them carry my extra cables, etc. But that is just so sad about your bag. Hope they find it.

now there's an idea!

something we should all remember considering how often airlines suck:
CARRY EVERYTHING ON THAT IS IMPERITIVE TO CAMERA OPERATION

(certainly no offense meant for the OP, as I'm sure they've kicked themselves many many times for not doing so)

If it makes you feel any better, that 85% charge should still last you quite a few shots ;)

I'm on 1500 or so shots with my first charge and the battery is reporting 75% left still (granted, most of those photos were in burst mode...not sure if that makes a difference)

Good news Airline delivering suitcase in 2 hours.

I hate 7 kgs carry-on limit

I could only carry camera & laptop on the plane, they made me take all my extra's out of my carry-on bag to put into cargo, then charged me $32 for excess luggage, then lost my suitcase. Not a very happy camper I can tell you.

I hope all is still in the suitcase.

Well congratulations on the camera, found suitcase, and your vacation(assumed). Then good luck with it being the correct suitcase and don't drop the camera out of the train. ;)

I've had to pack my charger and cables in a separate bag a couple of times. I didn't like it, but there was no choice given to me by the airlines. I've been lucky. Glad your bag showed up.

....On the topic of carrying everything on...

Have any of you had trouble with tripods in carry on luggage? I'd think a mono pod would be worse....

Just asking because recently I had my tripod checked and when I got home I had one of those TSA tags in the bag saying they had to look through it.. the only thing aside from clothes was the tripod...

I really wish we could re-think this entire checking vs. carry-on issue. I can carry everything I need neatly packed away in the back of my car where I can keep track of it. Placing belongings in the trust of other people just invites problems in my opinion.

Of course, driving isn't a good option when the trip is longer than about 600 miles, unless one prefers sightseeing along the way. And, I've not had much luck driving across water. :)

My suitcase arrived on time, & nothing was missing or dammaged. I hated breaking up camera gear.
