Did not know which section these were appropriate for. Just got my 24-105 F4L a week ago. I love it. And if that's not toy enough the second picture has my baby...............no I'm not talking about the dude.

The first picture is my favorite. Note the motion of the bolt and the round starting to eject from the chamber. This lens is awesome.

Great captures! Could do with a bit more detail in the blacks, but they look great. How did you get their shots? Are you in the force?

That would be top secret and if I told you...............well...............you know the rest;) AHHHHHHHHHHHH just kidding. Yes I'm on the team and have been assigned to photographically document our trainings. It's great practice for me. Essentially I get paid to take pictures.

I agree with you on this one. A little advice on the how too end of things would be helpful. I'm sure it has to do with metering the scene because of the black. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all for the comments!

That's great. I'm sure you have a really hard job, but it's cool that you get to improve your hobby documenting how you work :)

The problem with the blacks is just because there's such a massive range in lighting conditions - you can try using levels and moving the midpoint slider, but otherwise, if you have Photoshop, use the shadows / highlights tool to get some more detail out.

The only other thing you could have done in this situation is to use a flash to lighten him which would narrow the dynamic range. Otherwise, if you can use a reflector - but I appreciate unless it's posed, it's not something you could do in a situation like this, easily.

I have Lightroom. I'll give the shadow/highlight a go.

Thanks
