Finally got around to taking a duck shot with the new L glass. Took this shot last weekend: Big Bear Lake in Southern Cal, at dawn, from about 125 feet away. Tweaked for daylight and cropped slightly in Camera Raw, then sharpened a bit in Photoshop.

Wish I could have gotten a shot of the brown bear I saw driving in the night before

I really doubt it was a brown bear...as far as I know the last one in the state is on the state flag.

It was a black bear in disguise because it was driving with a suspended license. :)

Color phase...

Black bears can be black, brown, blond, cinnamon, etc....

Maybe it wasn't a bear at all. My dad used to tell me to look at all the "bears" grazing in the pasture.

Congrats on the new lens. I too just got one and absolutely love it. No duck shots yet though.

Thanks for the compliments on the pic and the good wishes on the lens.

So far as the bear, please allow me to clarify: it was a very large bear (on all fours, it's backbone was at about the same level as the hood of my Toyota Tundra pickup truck) and was brown in color - I was too busy wiggin' out to observe much more than that.
