The concept is good, the quality of Cokin filters is not. I have a whole series of them from my earlier days with SLR's (A series).

With my digital, I use HiTech graduated ND filters that fit inside the Cokin P filter holder.

Ditto. I used to use Cokin a long time ago and now I just have the Cokin holder for (also) HiTech ND filters...but most of the time I hand-hold these filters.

Cokin has three different sizes of filters, depending on the lens filter size.

I use the Cokin P series, since that is appropriate for the 72 and 77mm filter size of many of my lenses. I don't have any trouble with them as long as I don't let them get heavily scratched. But I use them only for graduated neutral density or for tinted graduated neutral density because those must be rectangular, by definition.

Anything that comes in a straight round filter is fine used that way (UV, skylight, circular polarizing, etc.).
