I overheard a funny conversation at the local camera store this weekend while waiting at the cash register. At the counter one of the sales folk was chatting up a customer expounding on the virtues of the Nikon. I believe he was trying to sell the poor guy a D200 by the looks of it. Well I was listening in to the conversation and I learned something new. Nikon now supports “L” glass. Well at least according to the sales guy it does. The conversation went something like this.
Cust: Well, the camera is nice but I have heard that the lens is not that good.
Salesperson: Well that’s the nice thing about SLRs, you can upgrade your lens whenever you want.
Cust: I was really looking for something of a telephoto.
Salesperson: Nikon has some good telephotos.
Cust: I had read that most of the pros use the white lenses.
Sp: reaches behind the counter and grabs a 70-200IS. (Couldn’t tell if it was the f/4 or f/2.8)
Well for the next few minutes the poor sales guy was trying to mount the 70-200 with little success. I had to fight the urge to comment and even my wife standing next to me commended me on my restraint. I do wonder what the guy ended up with though.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

haha silly assistant! Bless at least he knew what a telephoto was :)

He probably ended up with a D40 and a canon kit lens!

If he had known what he was talking about, he might have been able to sell the customer a white Nikon telephoto lens (yes, they have made white lenses too).

If you measured the IQs of all the shop workers I doubt you'd reach the giddy heights of zero.

It was pretty funny and a bit sad as well. One would think that even for new guys that they would learn their two major product lines pretty quick. What really surprised me was that this didn’t look like a summer hire. I could almost excuse some H/S kid that just got a summer job.
