Well that dreaded time has come for me and it is time to upgrade my pc. I have a pretty tight budget and am looking to spend as little as i can get away with, but don't want to get something that isn't any better than my current system. I have been looking at some used Powerbooks G3/4 in the 500-700 USD range. My question is, will i be able to run CS2 on one of these machines with out much lag time? I am looking at a system with a 1.33 or 1.67 ghz, and 1gb ram, (would possibly upgrade to 2gb if possible). These systems do have smaller harddrives, 20-60GB, but i plan on using a couple externals anyway.

If anyone is using or has used one of these systems i would love to hear how it has worked for you, and for processing your images.

thank you in advance,

Dustin

I have a powerbook G4 1.67ghz. I don't currently run CS2, but I ran a trial copy of it in the past. It ran fine. I have 2gbs of ram and 100gb 7200rpm drive. Of course it took a second or two to come up, but once it was up it ran great. I removed the trial and went with PSE 4 for the time being. I am about to buy CS3 (have a Macbook too). I plan to run CS3 on both of them, I don't think (just guessing), it should be a problem.

Im on my portable processing station (my laptop, lmao) and it so happens to be a 1.67ghz 15 inch powerbook with 1 gb of ram and 100GB HDD. I am currently running CS2 as we speak batch processing some images. I run ps and bridge at the same time while browsing the internet. Its a mobile powerhouse. not as fast as the intel ones, but darn sufficient. i also dab in film and run Final Cut Studio to its full potential. Get, be happy, throw it in your camera bag, you wont have any worries, ill gurantee it. Oh, forgot to mention, stay away from Aperture, its a system hog even on the Intel macbook pros. I use Lightroom, and it is just fine. Best bet is this combo but with 2gb of ram, as i will be upgrading soon. I find running multi threaded apps its pushes the cpu to 100% often since it is paging the HDD as virtual ram. I just finished "aquiring" CS3 master edition, so ill get that up and running and let you know if your interested.

The Powerbook won't be blazing fast, but it'll do. (I run a PowerPC G4, 1GHz, with 1,5Gig Ram...)
You will need a seperate display, if you want a good screen...

Thank you all for your replys. I think that i may try to pick one of these up on ebay for the time being. Sounds like it will be great for carrying around and doing some minor tweaking of images.

thank you all again,

Dustin
