Have you tried this link for ISS (and other) predictions? http://heavens-above.com/ (external link)

Its worked well for me... I couldn't imagine taking pics of it tho as they do move rather fast.

I just checked with a NASA site and it looks like the ISS's orbit is nowhere near our islands....:(

Well Ro-monster, you've done it again. Another fine capture and post. But you leave me even the more frustrated and irritated with this one. Surely, surely...with approximately 4500mm, surely you can take a shot of Peter's a*se as he fancies himself in front of his bathroom mirror each day? Manilla to Toronto should be a cakewalk in the light of Manilla to Jupiter? Please don't disappoint me any longer. I can hardly take it.

Lol, Jojo.... if Petty is kind enough to email me his GPS coordinates (and the time "he fancies himself in front of his bathroom mirror each day"), I can point the Sigmonster in his direction for a few snapshots.....

Well (sigh), I suppose that is all I can ask of you, Romy. Now the ball's in Pete's court. Let's see those coordinates!

That's cool, I'm going to have to have a go with my Sigmonster, if I can find Jupiter!

Over Manila, Venus follows the setting sun in the west. Jupiter is the brightest "star" to the east after sunset. Not sure if the view is the same in other places.

BTW, nice shot of Saturn a while back! I'll give the ringed planet a go too, if I can find it....;)

Thanks, I'm using square root of 2 for the sole 1.4x. So focal length = 800 mm x 2 x 2 x (2^1/2) = 4525 mm.

But we're splitting hairs... 4480 mm should close enough. After all, not all 2x TCs are real doublers, and the Sigmonster might be a bit shy of 800 mm at full zoom....;)

Romy

Ah, got it. Your sense of precision is evident in many ways.:)

Wow, f/51... With so many teleconverters that's what, 1 1/3 stops from max aperture?

I once pointed my 30D with a 300mm f/4L and 1.4x and 2x teleconverters at Jupiter. I ended up with this:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/png'

That's a 100% crop...

Nice attempt, Lani!

For my version, I did two exposures - one for the bright Jupiter, and the other for the moons. I then combined these in CS2.

On the max. Av of the Sigmonster, I can't recall how far the bare lens would stop down. But I did stack on it 16x worth of TCs once, and wide open was f/91. I shot at f/128 (1 stop from wide open) for "better" IQ....

I managed to find Saturn alright, but seeing conditions over Manila is bad tonight - too much haze.

Here's a poor attempt with a "mere" 4x TC (3200 mm)... my first photo of the ringed planet. Will try again in the coming nights when the heavens are clearer...:)
