I think the Hubble has lens envy...

Yeah here's a lame shot from that envious fellow... ;)

*note: this picture was taken AFTER the mission to swap out the hubble's tamron-sourced glass with the new Canon 57600mm f/48L glass (CA cleans up completely at f/288!)*

I think it's safe to assume Saturn is at infinity! ;)

DOF formulas say that at Saturn's distance, the DOF should be huge, and theoretically I can just set the focus ring to infinity and shoot.

But in actual shooting, I've to fine-tune MF very well to get sharp focus. Any tiny movement of the focus ring renders the subject terribly OOF.

LOL! Would it not be easier to buy a telescope and an adapter for the camera? Or am I missing the point?

But he already owns the Sigmonster and the TCs so why buy the telescope? ;)

Yep.... I shoot birds primarily, and just use my long birding glasses at astro stuff for fun...:D

Have you thought about dedicated Astrophotography mate?

Thanks, but I really just do astro stuff for fun. For even more fun, I go for them feathered friends....;)

Nice shot JuZ! If you've another 1.4x or even a 2x, I think you can add it to the 2.8x and increase detail captured. The sweet TC stacking magnitude is about 4x - 5.6x. I've tried 8x (2x TC * 3) but no significant increase in detail was realized.

Just for comparison here's a shot of Saturn from the UK, taken just from outside my front door :)

20D, Sigmonster + 2x TC + 1.4x TC, 100% crop
