Ya...great...when I try and open up a file as Raw in PS7 I get a lovely block of what looks like exagurated noise in all colors or one of those pictures of colored dots where you have to squint and stare at it for 1/2 an hour 'til you suddenly see the image...only problem is I can't ever see the image...this raw thing is not helping my confidence or desire for raw at all and help is no help....aaaggghhhhh!!! HELP!!! (please!!)

I might mention that clicking on the file in "my Computer" thru the card reader the file shows up...but it does not show in any form when I try PS's browser...just the jpeg version..:(

Hi Peachman, try downloading fastsone for viewing http://www.faststone.org/ (external link) the photoshop issue sounds like either you need RAM or need to update your PS to open the files.

Windows has a RAW plug in for viewing thumbnails as well, but fasstone is better IMO.

definitely now, I have a gig on my work machine and that is slow. The good news is that RAM is relatively cheap these days!

adobe usually has trial editions of their software, you could try lightroom or CS3 but I really do think it is the RAM.

I'll get more ram tomorrow...The PS& that I have does support Raw. It does ask what foremat to open and lists raw...oh . I hate these learning curves....I'm too old for this....arrragh! (how come there is no little flashy face for a cursing pirate!!?)

The PS& that I have does support Raw.

Every camera has a slightly different RAW format (I really don't know why). Each time a new camera is introduced, all the RAW conversion software companies need to provide updates. If your PS7 predates the 20D, you may just need to update the software.

I rarely tell people to spend money on software but I believe Adobe Lightroom is the future of RAW conversion. With the Adobe marketing and development behind it, Lightroom will soon be as ubiquitous as Photoshop.

Canon's DPP is free, and should have come on the CD with both of your cameras....

Unfortunately, PS 7 does not support any RAW format...

Yes, but it won't help in getting it into PS will it?

Sure it can. You can do it one of two ways:

1. Edit the RAW and then Save it as a Jpeg or TIFF to open in PS7.
2. Edit the RAW and then Right Click and send to PS7.
