I am a very unhappy HP owner. I have HP 8250 and HP 7960, that HP just can't get the profiles to work right for Vista.

I am debating over one of 3 possible replacements: Epson 1400, Epson R 1800, or Canon Pro 9000.

Any input would be helpful.

Which is better pigment ink (R1800) or Dye ink (other two)?

I see max resolution on Epson is 5760x1440 dpi and Canon is 4800 x 2400 dpi, which will be sharper.

1400 is cheaper but ink more expensive??

Has to work OUT OF THE BOX with Vista. I don't want anymore updated drivers to fight over.

Thanks for your input

You would never regret buying the Epson 1800...beautiful archival prints...the ink, however is never stocked in the stores around where I live. It has some quirks in getting paper to load occasionally, but really a great printer in general...the pigmented ink is wonderful and long lasting

The Epson has droplets much smaller in size than the HP making it (the epson) very sharp..

I also bought the HP 8250 and it is awful for colors and contrast. I bought a cheap and I mean cheap Epson C88 and it prints out amazing pictures. I love all my Epson printers, including my 2 PictureMates and the Peachman's recommendation is right on.

Do you know if the R1800 works "OUT OF THE BOX" with Windows Vista.

I want to avoid the mess I have now trying to get the so called updated Vista drivers to work.

HP is trying to say it is a PS CS3 issues...NOT, The paper/printer profiles just aren't there

Someone told me there is an update for most printers with VISTA. I know several people here who bought VISTA, installed it and uninstalled because it didn't work right with their printers. Sad, but true.

How about reliability of the R1800. Is the 3 extended warranty a good buy??

Anyone have any trouble after the 1 yr mfg warranty??

I have had zero trouble that would need the attention of the factory so I can't comment. I guess if I was printing 30 pages a day I would go for the extended warrentee...If I was printing 30 a month (as is about what I do) I would probably not buy the extended warrentee...
