I'm currently stuck between choosing a used Canon 10D or a brand new Rebel XTi.

The 10D will be sold with a Sigma 25~80 macro lens for $500. The Rebel will come with the stock 18-55mm lens at $779.

Which do you reccommend?
I'm planning to make a decision later this evening.

Thanks in advance,
--Chris

I've compared the two models at canon.com and they seem quite similar. Except the resolution.

You would probably get a better response in the Camera forum, but if it wre me I would but the XTi. It has many advantages over the 10D like resolution, auto focus is newer and better, self cleaning sensor, larger screen, larger buffer, etc.

Thank you, In2. I've posted this inquiry in the "Canon EOS digital cameras" forum.

In response to your suggestion, I'm almost certain I'll choose the XTi...unless someone proves the 10D a wiser buy.

The XTi also has DIGICII as opposed to DIGIC. There are quite a few speed advantaged with DIGICII such as camera startup and focus speed and accuracy.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I keep wondering about upgrading to something newer (from a 10D). But for motorsports, it's 9 frame buffer (in RAW mode) has yet to be beaten without going to the single digit range. Going to a 20D or 30D goes to 8.2MP (from 6.3MP) but that's only 20% more in X & Y, so doesn't actually gain much.

The 30D does have a better AF than the 10D and improved noise as well.

Most motorsports events are outside, with an F2.8 lens at ISO 200 I've got good enough leeway, so I don't feel the need to "upgrade". In RAW mode the buffer on the modern camera is only 6 frames, the extra 3 the 10D offers makes up for it's age. The 5D keeps pulling (I'd love a 1Ds, but don't have that kind of money), but the difference to the 5D would buy so many other upgrades...

Well, not quite a duck but I suppose just as general. This is the first image from the camera. I was fishing through the box in the parking lot and swung the door open to take this shot of someone's car. Full automatic setts.

When I opened the RAW file, I couldn't believe the size! 57 mb! I'm gonna need another hard drive! :D Thanks for the link! Great source of information there.
