PICTURE ROTATION PROBLEM

I have recently purchased a PANASONIC S75 DVD player mainly because it is able to display .JPG files taken using my S45 on my TV. However it is not managing to display any photos which have been rotated. This is the case with photos automatically rotated on the camera by virtue of its auto rotate function as well as those rotated manually using Adobe photoshop album. There is no such problem when the same CD is used with a Pioneer DVD player. [/B]

It is likely that the Panasonic does not read the exif data to catch the orientation of the image. Contact Panasonic and see what they suggest. Perhaps there is an upgrade available?

I have noticed that some programs suffer the same fate: They display the re-orientated picture at the original orientation, but then when another software loads the image, it's correct...

Thanks for your help. I suspected it may have something to do with the EXIF data.
THE Panasonic DVD manual says 'To view JPEG files on this unit: - take them on a camera that meets the DCF (design rule for camera file system) standard. Some digital cameras have functions that are not supported by the DCF standard like automatic picture rotation which may render a picture un-viewable'. I cannot find anything in the manual to suggest that the S45 does meet the DCF standard though with it being a fairly recent camera you would expect that it would. This would also not explain why photos rotated 'manually' using a photo editing package do not display either. The camera seems to support EXIF 2.2 which is I think more to do with printer compatability.
Perhaps there is a way of 'fixing' the photos before burning them onto CD/DVD. - any suggestions.

I'm just curious to know: are the thumbnails in windows oriented properly?

The thumbnails do not display for all the photos that are rotated There is a large X on the TV screen in place of the thumbnail.

If you mean the thumbnails on the PC when displaying thumnail folder view then yes they all display correctly.

If you want to, check out http://www.exif.org/ for info on EXIF/DCF data. (I got confused with it...) There is a link to a program that edits and rotates files. Perhaps it can 'do the trick'... Not sure.
