I see a lot of interesting sounding "handle" on this forum and I've always wondered what the significance was for some of them or why you picked that name. Some are very obvious but others are rather thought provoking. Would you like to share the reason or significance of yours? Thanks. :)

Well, someone else already took Scott, another took ScottS. So I threw my middle initial in there. Boring, huh? Better than "Nbfdkvhbdkbd" though. :)

How about you, PacAce? What's your handle mean?

PacAce is just an abbreviation for Pacific Ace. It's a handle I made for myself during my CB days way back (remember the CB radios? :) ). And the reason I came up with that name is because 1) I grew up in Okinawa, a little island in the Pacific and 2) my last name starts with an A as in the Ace of Spades in a card deck.

While mine sounds like it came from photography it didn't. Several years ago (I guess about 8 now) I wanted a pair of perscription sunglasses. Not congtent with the regular shaded sunglasses I asked for them to coat the lenses so that they were blue. I told them my inspiration were those cheap round ultra blue hippie-esque sunglasses you can get for $10 at the gas station. They said they would give it their best shot and viola, there were my bluelens. I kinda stuck to the word and have used it for my online presence ever sense.

Yeah, a long wordy response to the question. I guess I could have just said..My sunglasses are tinted blue and that is where I came up with bluelens.

Oh well.

Interesting. And do you still wear blue sunglasses? :)

Yup, but they are severly in need for new prescription. I have had my regular glasses changed out a few times since then and have yet to "update" the sunglasses.

Of course I find it interesting to shoot while wearing them. I have learned to take them off when using any filters (outside of a UV of course) the hard way. Red filter with blue sunglasses makes it hard to use the viewfinder

CoolToolGuy is a handle for one of my other passions - Special tools, primarily for Porsche and VW. I have collected them since I worked in a dealership, and now I sell them as a sideline. Cool Tools are the special tools that help you do a specific task without scraping your knuckles or ruining the thing you are trying to fix. Nowadays the money I make from them funds my glass collection - lenses, that is.

Have Fun,

Rick

I have no specific reason for choosing my screen name. It was purely random.... ;)

I chose stop bath as a bow to the dark room of photography... And stop bath sounds better than developer or fixer....

I'm a motor-sport nut. Cadwell Park is probably the best circuit in the country (UK). It's been described as a mini-Nurburgring (and they're not referring to that joke of a circuit the F1 boys go round nowadays either). It's also a "circuit that time forgot" in the sense that there are very few of the intrusive modern safety features like huge gravel traps and there are no catch fences whatsoever! :D

I love the place. If you ever get the chance to watch motor racing there you won't regret it.

p.s. They do a great Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding in the clubhouse too ;)

A Latina friend told me that my nickname in Spanish might be Maderito - from madera=wood. Turns out to be a relatively unique name, even among Latinos. Maybe she was lying. :)

Someone from Spain later told me it's a local slang word for undercover cops.

If I ever move to Spain, I'll find another handle.

The idea for my screen name came from a story I read once (and cannot remember now :(, how ironic) ; it was about some goblins or trolls or some other little critter that had an ability called Diamond mind, it is crystal-like clarity of thinking, very smart beings. I liked that idea, and consider myself fairly intelligent but also somewhat creative, so I changed it to jemmind.

Years ago I used to write an occasional article for a regional Porsche Club magazine. The editor (a salt-of-the-earth type) made up the name 'Belmondo Bladderburst' as a pen name for me. I complained bitterly that it was beneath even my dignity, and finally got it shortened to 'Belmondo'.

BTW, I claimed the name 'Meatloaf' as my CB handle, but the same guy eventually morphed it into 'Uncle Smelly Meat'. I admit the name is rather catchy, but felt it detracted from the diginified image I was attempting to nurture.

He was quite a wit, and possibly one of the main reasons I sold my Porsche and never joined another car club again.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
